The World is Rediscovering the .si Domain. Initial Indications Were Evident in June.

The Slovenian domain extension .si is gaining new meaning: “superintelligence.” Following Trump’s announcement regarding the renaming of artificial intelligence, the story also attracted broader public attention. However, interest in it was already evident in the domain market before the recent headlines.
As reported by Žurnal24, the popularization of the term could increase international demand for .si domains. Register.si is already reporting an increased number of registrations and exceeding the milestone of 200,000 domains. The Slovenian web designation has thus gained an additional narrative, interesting even beyond our borders. Žurnal24
Interest Did Not Begin with Trump’s Statement
Our company thoroughly examined the field of short .si domains already in June. Through ExpiredDomains, we primarily reviewed two- and three-character combinations and considered which ones would be meaningful as abbreviations for international technology brands. The possibility that .si could establish itself as a designation for superintelligence particularly caught our attention.
That the market recognized this connection even then is also shown by an analysis from the Domain Name Wire portal on June 11, 2026. The author reviewed 35 sales of .si domains recorded in the NameBio database from the beginning of the year until June 9. Among them, he highlighted recursive.si, sold for 20,000 US dollars, and linked it to an artificial intelligence company that mentions superintelligence on its website. Domain Name News
Current media attention therefore provides additional momentum to an idea that was already present in the domain market.
What Actually Gives a Domain Value?
From a marketing perspective, it is particularly interesting how the same extension can communicate different things to different audiences. For a Slovenian customer, .si indicates a domestic web presence. For an international technology audience, however, with an appropriate name and content, it can suggest a connection to superintelligence.
Therefore, with short domains, more than just the number of characters matters. It is important whether we remember the name, whether we can pronounce it, and whether the abbreviation actually means anything to the company or product. A random three-character combination does not become a good brand merely due to media attention.
The June analysis also showed that most of the domains reviewed were purchased by domain investors. This is an important distinction: interest in reselling does not yet signify widespread use among technology companies. Their actual use will demonstrate how lasting the new meaning of the .si extension is. Domain Name News
An Opportunity for Brands That Look Ahead
The .si story is a good example of why, in digital marketing, we also monitor developments outside of advertising platforms. Changes in language, technology, and customer behavior can even influence the choice of a web address.
For a company developing an artificial intelligence solution, a thoughtfully chosen .si domain can be an interesting part of its identity. Its long-term value, however, will depend on what the company builds on it and how well the name serves its brand.
